Kathy Gambarotto
Medical Director
Dr. Kathryn Gambarotto is the founding medical director of McMaster Downtown Pediatrics, a child health clinic that opened its doors to children and families in Hamilton and the surrounding communities in 2022.
She has a 20-year long history of serving families in Hamilton through her previous community practice and through her work as a consulting pediatrician at McMaster Children’s Hospital and in supporting the special care nursery at St. Joseph’s Healthcare.
Dr. Gambarotto is also an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University. She earned a Master’s of Science in Medical Genetics at the University of Toronto and completed her medical and pediatric residency training at McMaster University. She joined the faculty at McMaster in 1999.
She is a highly experienced pediatrician who is passionate about caring for children and is committed to creating welcoming spaces where all families feel safe and supported.

Rawan Abdelhaq
Pediatrician
Dr. Rawan Abdelhaq is a recent graduate from the McMaster Pediatric Residency Program in June 2022, and joined the team at Downtown Pediatrics in September 2022. She completed her medical degree at the University College Cork, Ireland, and prior to her training in pediatrics, she completed training in internal medicine and graduated as a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2016. However, Dr. Abdelhaq’s passion for pediatrics led her to Canada, and McMaster, for further training.
Throughout her career, she has been passionate about global health, advocacy, and caring for those that are most vulnerable, as well as education and mentorship. Dr. Adelhaq previously worked with Médecins Sans Frontières, taking part in their work with Syrian refugee populations in Eastern Lebanon, and during her residency training, she remained involved with refugee health initiatives through the Refuge clinic in downtown Hamilton, patient advocacy, and conducted research surrounding food insecurity in our patient population. As the winner of the McMaster Resident Advocate award, she is also committed to resident wellness and growth of postgraduate residency training programs.
In addition to her role at McMaster Downtown Pediatrics, Dr. Abdelhaq also works as a consulting pediatrician in the Special Care Nursery at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Dr. Abdelhaq is passionate about providing the best standard of care for the children of Hamilton and its surroundings, and creating a safe, welcoming space for all those who may require our services.

Mohammed Hassan-Ali
Pediatrician
Dr. Mohammed Hassan-Ali is a recent graduate from the McMaster Pediatric Residency Program in June 2022. He completed his undergraduate degree at McMaster University, Master’s degree at Simon Fraser University and medical degree at Windsor University School of Medicine.
During his pediatric training, he was involved in several committees including EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) groups, CPS (Canadian Pediatric Society) council, and PGME (Post Graduate Medical Education) committee. He is passionate about these topics and hopes to contribute to these areas as a community pediatrician. As the winner of the Bosco Paes teaching award, he is also committed to teaching and medical education.
Areas of pediatrics that Dr. Hassan-Ali is interested in includes scholastic success (i.e. education and sports), use of technology in pediatric medicine, and cardiometabolics (i.e., obesity, exercise and nutrition).
He has lived in Hamilton, Ontario, most of his life and has been an integral part of the community – such as volunteering at local community shelters, after school programs for kids, and running charity campaigns.
Outside of the clinic or hospital, you will find him trying out new restaurants/installations around James Street, still trying to learn the piano, and building an ultimate post-pandemic vacation bucket list.

Megan Laupacis
Pediatrician
Dr. Megan Laupacis is a recent graduate of McMaster Pediatric Residency Program in June 2022 and was excited to join the team at Downtown Pediatrics in August 2022.
She completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Queen’s University with a special interest in athletic therapy, and then completed her medical degree at Queen’s University medical school. In addition to working at McMaster Downtown Pediatrics, Dr. Laupacis works full time as a pediatrician at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Outside of work, Dr. Laupacis is happiest outdoors! She enjoys camping, gardening, running, white-water kayaking, and doting on her golden retriever.

Smita Roychoudhury
Pediatrician
Dr. Smita Roychoudhury is a General Pediatrician and Neonatologist. After finishing her initial medical training from India, she completed additional fellowships in General Pediatrics at McMaster University, with Royal College certification in Neonatology from the University of Calgary with a year dedicated to neurocritical care. She also completed QI and patient safety certifications from Health Quality Council of Alberta, John Hopkins and Institute of Health Improvement. She then went on to complete her Pediatric Residency at McMaster University.
She is passionate about medical education with a special focus in advancement of acute skills and helping students and residents become qualified in primary pediatric care. In addition to acute care, her interests lie in preventive pediatric medicine that can influence and reduce the burden of chronic illnesses. Her research projects have also revolved around factors that can impact the long term outcomes, be it the preterm population or the general pediatric population, promoting evidence based management to address these factors, especially amongst populations impacted by socio-economic inequities.

Spencer van Mil
Pediatrician
Dr. Spencer van Mil is a graduate of the McMaster Pediatric Residency Program and joined the McMaster Downtown Pediatrics team in 2023. In addition to his role at the clinic, he is working as a consulting pediatrician in the Special Care Nursery at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Previously, he attended medical school at the University of Toronto and completed his Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa.
Throughout his training and early career, Dr. van Mil has been interested in medical education scholarship and leadership. During residency, he was the chief pediatric resident for the 2021-2022 academic year. Currently, Dr. van Mil is completing the Health Science Education MSc program and the Clinician Investigator Program through McMaster University. For his efforts, he has been awarded the PGME Resident Leader Award, CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship, PGME Medical Education Research Grant, and the Faculty of Health Sciences Graduate Programs Outstanding Achievement Award.
Dr. van Mil is passionate about providing the highest standard of care to the pediatric population in the Hamilton region.

Angus Wang
Pediatrician
Dr. Angus Wang is a General Pediatrician. He completed his medical degree at the University of East Anglia, England and worked as a foundation doctor in the Oxford deanery before moving back to Canada for his Pediatric training.
Dr. Wang completed his Pediatrics Residency at the University of Manitoba. He then worked in Winnipeg as a primary care and consulting pediatrician in an outpatient clinic and at the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital until moving to Ontario. He is excited to join the team at McMaster Downtown Pediatrics and have the opportunity to provide care to children and families in Hamilton and the surrounding areas.
When Dr. Wang is not working, you can find him enjoying the outdoors with his wife and son or in the kitchen trying a new recipe.

We care for patients in our office and through virtual appointments. Speak to our office staff to determine the best option for your family.
If you need assistance after hours, you can call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 and speak to a registered nurse. They will provide guidance for an urgent health issue.

Parking or Drop-off

Patient parking is available in an underground parking lot below the David Braley Health Sciences Centre. The entrance for the parking lot is off of Bay St. North.
Parking is $3 per hour to a maximum of $8 and payment can be made by debit and credit card.
If you do not require parking, there is a covered patient drop off available. The drop off zone is off of Bay St. North.
